	100 migrant workers awarded 900,000 baht from the Employee Welfare Fund at the Office of Chiang Mai Labour Welfare and Protection, handed over by the Chiang Mai Governor

Yesterday, (10 August) at 9.00am, 100 migrant workers have gone to receive from the Employee Welfare Fund 9,000 baht each, altogether 900,000 baht. It was handed over by the Chiang Mai Governor at the office of the Provincial Authority

It has stemmed from the case of over 200 workers had been laid off since 21 January 2016 and denied their outstanding wages by the Perfetto Limited Partnership. They were employed in four construction sites including (1) the Star Avenue 5at Ban Pa Tan, Moo 4, Tambon San Phak Wan, Hang Dong, Chiang Mai, (2) the Spring Condominium at 34, Tambon Fah Ham, Muang District, Chiang Mai, (3) the Arm Ong Condominium, Moo 7, Tambon Fah Ham, Muang District, Chiang Mai and (4) the Phawit Condominium in Tambon Chang Pheuk, Muang District, Chiang Mai. 

After the layoff, 195 workers have complained with the labour inspector of the Office of Chiang Mai Labour Welfare and Protection demanding that the employers pay them the overdue wages, the overtime pay, and the remuneration in lieu of advance notice. On 8 March 2016m the labour inspector ordered the Perfetto Limited Partnership by Ms. Kornchanok Kaewthida and Mr. Ekarin Nimboonjak, the two partners to provide the remuneration in lieu of advance notice, the severance pay, the outstanding wages and the overtime pay to all 195 workers worth 5,969,455.44 baht and the payment should be made within thirty days since the persons are aware or are supposed to be aware of the instruction. The money shall be handed over at the Office of Chiang Mai Labour Welfare and Protection.  

Nevertheless, after the labour inspector has issued the order, the employers have failed to do so within the timeframe. The employees are preparing to bring the case against the employers at the Labour Court Region 5 further on.
