Workers Need Better Protection

BANGKOK, May 1 (TNA) -- Workers’ organizations filed 10 demands, mainly for better labour protection, with the government in an event to mark the Labour Day today.

The event was organized at the Bangkok Youth Center in Din Daeng district. Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha, Labour Minister Adul Sangsingkeo, government officials and representatives of workers’ organizations were there.

The 10 demands included privileges for workers retiring at the age of 55, social welfare for all groups of workers, ratification of international conventions on the establishment of labour unions and workers’ negotiations, and legal amendments on labour relations, labour protection, workers’ safety, labour quality, and workers’ fund.

To mark the Labour Day, workers’ representatives conducted religious ceremonies and paraded from the Army Stadium to the Bangkok Youth Center
