NONTHABURI, June 24 (TNA) – The Intellectual Property Department and the United States are joining forces to axe pirate movie websites.
Direk Boontae, deputy director-general of the department, said that last week Alistair Jennings, vice president of the Motion Picture Association which represented Hollywood, met him to discuss suppression on websites of pirate movies that provided both free and charged services.
Mr Direk said that the department planned a law amendment to facilitate the removal of pirate content from websites and the department expected the amendment would take effect in the near future because the cabinet already approved it.
Besides, the department planned to take proactive action and work with copyright owners and other governmental organizations to cope with copyright violation, he said. In addition, the department would seek court orders to block websites committing computer crime.
Mr Direk said online pirate movies damaged not only producers but also shops and restaurants that played them.
