Pattaya Blocks Access to Beaches to Curb COVID-19

Pattaya city will block access to beaches at nine locations from Sunday to May 31 in an effort to curb the COVID-19 outbreak.

After the Pattaya City Municipality issued the order on Thursday, Pattaya Mayor Sonthaya Kunplome inspected the beach entrances on Friday.

He told reports that all beaches, pier and public parks would be off-limit; only pavements along the shore would remain open for people to work out or jogging.

Beach entry for all activities would be totally banned, he said.

Violators are subject to up to 100,000- baht fine and/or no more than one year in jail.

Officials have placed barricades at Pattaya beach, Jomtien beach, Phra Thamnak beach, Cosy Beach, Wong Amat beach, Krathing Rai beach, Lan Phor Na Kluea public park and the grounds of Bali Hai pier.

Sonthaya said the order was in line with the provincial communicable disease committee.
